HOW MUCH DOES A FIRST CLASS TRAIN TICKET COSTS IN INDIA?|TRAVEL ON INDIAN RAILWAYS TRAINS : FIRST CLASS

Travelling in earlier times was all about reaching from one place to another. Earlier, trains did not have different coaches as it has now. Iron rods were bent in the form of benches back then. But over the years, travelling has made luxury and comfort an essential part of it. The evolving technology and the change in lifestyle is to be blamed for it. When we talk about different coaches Indian Railways offer then the price of ticket also differs. The concept of AC coaches was introduced in Frontier Mail, which is now named as Golden Temple Mail. Indian Railways has something for everyone, which means that it is not that it only has expensive options. They have general,chair car, AC first class, AC 2-tier,AC 3-tier and sleeper. The price of which depends upon the kind of facilities it offers. I will be covering all the classes in brief. So in my first Indian Railways series, I am going to talk about everything related to First Class coach in Indian Railways.

So this is how a AC first class OR 1AC compartment looks and this is the walkway. This is probably the view you will witness on your first steps. On the left side of the image you can notice three different doors. So as you have already guessed, first class coaches gives you utmost privacy as compared to other coaches. That happens through their idea of not giving or accommodating more than four people in one cabin. Cabin is the term which is casually used when we talk about First Class Coaches. Here there are two types of accommodation which you may witness. Let us have a look at these two.

1) COUPE : This one is basically designed in a way that only two people would get in it. A coupe has seats, which are wider and more comfortable then the normal ones. If your tickets has H1 written in place of coach number then that means that you will get a coupe. 

2)CABIN: Here the space is made for four people and thus maximum four people can share one cabin. Here also the seats are quite comfortable and it could be amazing if you have a group of travelling. You will have the whole place to yourself in that case. To identify whether you have got seat in a coupe or cabin. Is to see your coach number, if it has HA1,HA2,..........HAn written on it. Then that means that you are accommodated in a cabin.

So this was all about the seating design. Now let us move on to the other important things.

Does all trains offer First Class in same price?

NO! The prices differs from train to train. The Rajdhani's and some other trains may cost you more than normal trains. The Rajdhani and Duronto express are to be named a few which provides you food as well. By that I do not mean that the other ones will starve you. Here the cost of food is included before hand and thus you need not to buy anything. The normal First Class, do not have this facility and there you need to buy everything. And by everything I mean even a single water bottle. 

What Else Do I Get In There?

There is an attendant in each First Class coach. Who's job is to help you out with anything you need. When you enter in then he will give you a packet of sheets and a towel. You get two sheets, a towel and a pillow cover. The attendant cleans up the area and changes the pillow cover and sheet as soon as a new passenger is in there. You can do that by yourself and if not feel free to ask him to do it for you. 

What Is The Minimum Fare? 

First of all, the fare prices differs from the distance to be traveled. You can check the whole chart out here -> FARE LIST

For minimum distance,

For Rajdhani/Duronto: 1203 (INR)

For Mail/Express: 1047 (INR)

What Is The Maximum Fare?

For Rajdhani/Duronto: 7064 (INR)

For Mail/Express: 7836 (INR)

Here the price for mail and express is more because in these trains first class is available for larger distances. Which is not the case in rajdhani and duronto which goes up to 3500 Km.
